In addition to the new rental properties available in New Orleans, Stay Alfred offers one, two, and three-bedroom vacation rentals in 11 other U.S. The company’s revenues for 2015 totaled $13.5 million, and it currently anticipates its revenues surpassing $23 million by the end of 2016.Īllen says the company also plans in the coming months to open new rental units in Dallas, Chicago, and Atlanta. Stay Alfred has begun accepting reservations at the new property for travel dates beginning in July. Prior to the opening of the 49-unit Factors Row building, Stay Alfred had 44 other units in New Orleans. “Leasing on the larger scale is a part of that vision, that has so many benefits both operationally like decreased marketing and cleaning costs, while at the same time offering more services that can add to a great guest experience.” he says. “This particular building is very nice, and has some of the highest-end finishes of any we’ve been in.”Īllen says part of the company’s future vision is to establish a brand that is a cross between vacation rentals and hotel-style services. Jordan Allen, president of Stay Alfred, says the new rentals are a big step for the company, as this is the first time it has rented an entire building. Each apartment is individually decorated and features a flat-screen TV with cable channels, along with a washer/dryer, free WiFi, and a coffee/tea maker. Each unit contains private bedrooms and bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, access to a fitness center, and en-suite laundry. The building now holds 12 one-bedroom units, 35 two-bedroom rentals, and two three-bedroom penthouses. Well-known French artist Edgar Degas is said to have painted a picture of one of the building’s cotton offices in 1873 while visiting his mother’s Louisiana relatives. The building formerly housed cotton merchants, who were part of the New Orleans’s cotton exchange from the late 1800s to the 1960s. The new rentals in New Orleans are located in the 19th century Factors Row Building, at the corner of Carondelet and Perdido streets, about three blocks from the city’s iconic French Quarter. The company, which focuses on urban vacation and corporate rentals in the downtown areas of cities, currently has a total of 330 units for rent in 12 markets. Stay Alfred, the nationwide urban vacation rental company based here, has opened a new 49-unit vacation rental property in New Orleans.

The Index's FOV, at 130°, is also best-in-class, and there's virtually no detectable screen door effect inside the headset. The subpixel layout makes for a stunningly crisp picture, and while it's gradually being pushed down the ladder for resolution, it's deceivingly better than it sounds on paper. The Valve Index boasts some of the best visuals of any mainstream, commercially available VR headset, and that's down to the RGB LCD screens Valve is using. The fact that it's also the cheapest VR headset we recommend is just icing on the cake. Having originally required a Facebook account, we're now happy the Quest 2 no longer requires a Facebook login.Īs an all-round VR headset for a wide range of uses, the Quest 2 is simply unparalleled. That's roughly around two hours of battery life for gaming. The Quest 2 not only deals with the processing onboard, but it's also trying to conserve battery power to ensure a half-decent run. The standalone experience is admittedly still hampered by the low-power silicon, and there's no getting around that. It's a little fiddly, but you need only do it once and it's relatively quick to complete. The first time setup process will have you removing your headset, memorising Wi-Fi passwords, putting the headset back on again, and then waiting around for a couple of updates. With Inside-Out tracking and hand tracking built-in, you can go from unboxing to up-and-running in VR in just a couple of minutes. The Quest 2 is one of the quickest headsets to get up and running on this list. Meta replaced that with the 128GB model for the same price, so we don't recommend picking the 64GB model up unless it's going much cheaper than MSRP. There was also a 64GB model, as this was all the storage cheaper option launched with, but you'd probably be looking to buy a pre-owned headset to find one. There are two storage options to choose from: 256GB and 128GB. The official Oculus Link cable is really nice but so expensive. You can absolutely use a cheaper cable, but bear in mind that some won't deliver the length, bandwidth, or power that pricier cables can. I've bought the official Oculus Link cable, although it is really pricey. You can either play games purpose-built for the standalone headset, and thus rendered by the onboard Snapdragon XR2 chip, or beamed from your PC using Oculus Link and a compatible USB Type-C cable. That also now comes with 6GB of RAM, a step-up from the 4GB on the original model. Powering that is the Snapdragon XR2 System-on-Chip (SoC) from Qualcomm, which is a marked improvement over the Snapdragon 835 SoC used in the older Quest model. So long as you keep the headset at a decent level with your eyes in the centre, the Quest 2 delivers a crisp and clear picture. The Quest 2 becomes more than a standalone VR headset with Oculus Link. Especially if you can find a good deal on one.Īt 1832 x 1920 per eye, the Quest 2 offers exceptional clarity for what is priced like an entry-level headset, but is much more than that. If you want a VR headset today, there's still a lot to like about the Quest 2. That's still a good few months out yet, however. Meta has been spending big on its VR division, Reality Labs, lately, and it's sure to make a splash with its next-gen headset. That's more money than asked for the Quest 2, which isn't surprising considering Meta has messed with the Quest 2's price over the years, but the next-gen headset does promise to deliver. It might not stay that way for long, however, as the Quest 3 is set to release this year for $499. The factory is shown vacant and still with birds moving in. A child then wakes his father for work ironically with no work to do, they laugh and frolic. The chapter begins with footage of ducklings, kittens, piglets, and geese. They force open the gates and seize a manager carting him off in a wheel barrow dumping them down a hill into the water. Then locked within the gates of the complex, the crowd confronts the office. The strikers throw rocks and loose metal through the foundry windows. The workers leave the milling room running and resistance is met at the foundry. A worker, Yakov, is accused of the theft and subsequently hangs himself. Reason to strike A micrometer is stolen, with a value of 25 rubles or 3 weeks pay. Conditions are tense with agitators and bolsheviks planning a strike prior to the catalytic event. Vignettes are shown of each of them as the shot of each spy is juxtaposed with an image of their description. The administration is spying on the workers, reviewing a list of agents with vivid code names which all resemble animal names: The Monkey, The Bulldog, The Fox, The Shepherd, The Owl, ect. At the factory all is quiet Using typography, the word "HO" (but) is added to the title of the chapter which then animates and dissolves into an image of machinery in motion. Being organized means unity of action, unity of practical activity." I. Without organization of the masses, the proletarian is nothing. "The strength of the working class is organization. The film opens with a quote from Vladimir Lenin: Eisenstein’s theory of Intellectual Montage has the viewer make a connection between the murder of the civilians and the cow, which creates a third meaning for the viewer suggesting that the massacre of the civilians was more like a helpless slaughter. These violent and intense juxtaposed montage sequences can be looked at as the aesthetic starting point which inevitably led to other thrilling sequences, most famously with villagers ceremonially slaughtering a water buffalo in Frances Ford Coppola's war epic Apocalypse Now. Those two images juxtapose to form a third meaning between the cow and the civilians as the series of shots of the deceased and murdered civilians sprawled on the ground runs parallel to the cow's throat being brutally slashed open with a knife, as the cow slowly bleeds to death. The film is most famous for a legendary sequence near the end of the film which cross-cuts with footage of the Soviet police shooting and killing civilians that are trying to retreat from them off-screen, while the scene cuts back and forth to a slaughterhouse where a butcher is holding a knife to a cow’s throat right before slaughtering it. These theories were greatly used in Strike, as Eisenstein cuts between the poor and determined faces of the citizens getting raided by police officers, to the meetings of the greedy fat corporate shareholders drinking wine, laughing and clenching their cigars with their fat fingers, creating an contrasting argument for the injustice that the workers are receiving by the greedy higher class. Eisenstein also experimented with a theory called Intellectual Montage which was considered a style of editing that could form a relation or meaning between two separate images created from juxtaposition, and have them form new ideas, metaphors or symbols to the shots. Doing this Eisenstein would manipulate the viewer in feeling sympathy for the courageous workers and hatred for the corporate greedy business men. Soviet director Sergei Eisenstein was a student of the Kuleshov school of film-making and advocate of the theories of Soviet montage, which were a series of shots that formed conflict, collision and shock, which he believed was much more effective in emotionally affecting the viewer. The film depicts a strike in the year 1903 by the workers of a factory in pre-revolutionary Russia, and explores the labourers tension, hardship and subsequent suppression which was endured by the controlling class. Strike was one of the first major films of the Soviet Montage movement and it is a highly political propaganda film with strong statements about collectivism. Strike was acted by the Proletcult Theatre, and composed of six different parts, as it originally was intended to be one part of a seven-part series, entitled Towards Dictatorship (of the proletariat), that was left unfinished. Being organized means unity of action, unity of practical activity."ġ925's Strike was legendary director Sergei Eisenstein's first full-length feature film, and he would go on to make his masterpiece The Battleship Potemkin later that year. Your switch may have slots to push the wires straight into place rather than use the screws on the side. Next, bend the wire into a pig tail loop so that you can easily attach to the screws on the light switch. The wire strippers should have a spot marked for each gauge wire. Then, use your wire strippers and strip away about 5/8 of an inch of the insulation from the wire. Stripping the Wiresįirst, know what gauge wire you are working with. You will want to replicate that same wiring scheme when you install the new switch. If there are more wires for a three-way switch, then also keep track of where those were also connected. See where the black and white wires are connected. Important – If you are replacing an existing switch, make sure that you take not of how it is wired before you remove the existing wires.

Band members Trevor Horn, Anne Dudley and Paul Morley will all be in attendance, talking openly about The Art Of Noise and their classic debut. On 21 October Who’s Afraid of The Art of Noise? will be played in its entirety on vinyl through hi-fi sound at Classic Album Sundays. The album expresses a certain anxiety, but through this anxiety a gentle beauty is narrated: So what happens now? / Lord… where do we get such men? To be in England in the summertime (Hey) / With my love (Hey) / Close to the edge (Yeah) and of course the charm and warm delicacy of ‘Moments In Love’. The album features orchestral qualities, at times uplifting, but almost always jarring, orchestral sounds which feel like they are being displaced by the experimentation of the producers with modern technologies and synthetic sequencing creating a tense listening experience of half-heard vocal snippets and stuttering rhythms. The album has a sparse, spectral ambience to it in places such as ‘Moments in Love’, coupled with the harsh industrial offerings such as ‘A Time For Fear’.Īt times it feels like the music of the city, an urban pastiche, haunting soundscapes created by sounds in rhythmical sequence, heavily drawing on tonality rather than traditional melodies and harmony. Over 30 years later the album is still challenging to listen to. Heavily influential on future artists such as Prodigy (who would share a writing credit with AON on their single ‘Firestarter’ for it’s use of the “Hey!” sample from ‘Close (To The Edit)), The Art Of Noise would inspire a generation of artists to realise an album could be made with nothing more than a selection of sounds and the creativity to re-appropriate those sounds in an original and engaging manner. This was no ordinary music, this was the music of the future, the music of the machines, a statement of belief for what music could be.Ĭreated using samplers and the then ultra modern Fairlight synth, the album created a sound which was often tense to listen to, cut and paste sounds and fragments from the past woven with futuristic synths and vocal snippets creating a sonic imprint that was unlike anything else created at the time. The band’s name was taken from the art and noise manifestos of the Italian Futurists who’s essays contained titles such as “The Art of Noises”, “The Futurist Noise Machines”, “Manifesto of Futurist Musicians” and “Technical Manifesto of Futurist Music”. The impression the album leaves almost seems to come as much from the art direction of the band and the actual production style as much as the song writing itself. Without any recognisable frontman, the sound was not driven by vocal performances but was created from a pallet of samples, field recordings and synthesis, blurring the lines between the traditional genres of new wave, rock, pop and dance music. The roles of the artist, songwriter and producer would be blurred by the futuristic approach of the (non) group Trevor Horn, Anne Dudley, Paul Morley, Gary Langan and J. Barratt, 1985.Īhead of Classic Album Sundays’ evening with Art of Noise later this month, we revisit the band’s essential ’84 debut Who’s Afraid of The Art of Noise?Ī manifesto for the future, a blueprint for what was to become, Who’s Afraid Of The Art Of Noise? pushed the boundaries of how albums would be conceived in electronic music. “The Art Of Noise as they are” publicity photograph by A.J. In addition, the RC Pro controller is equipped with four antennas while the DJI RC comes with only two built-in antennas. DJI RC Pro also supports third-party apps, which the DJI RC does not. While both DJI RC Pro and DJI RC have a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, the RC Pro supports higher screen brightness of up to 1,000 nits. What is the difference between DJI RC Pro and DJI RC? It’s worth highlighting that the Mavic 3 has received many noteworthy firmware updates since its launch last year, the latest of which has unleashed the full potential of its tele lens, thus enabling the drone to fully justify its $2,049 price tag. You can pick up the $309 DJI RC from the company’s online store and authorized retailers including BHPhoto, Adorama, and DroneNerds. The remote controller lasts for up to four hours on a full charge, ensuring enough juice to shoot at multiple locations. When paired with drones that support O3+ video transmission, such as the Mavic 3, DJI RC can provide low-latency HD 1080p/60fps live feed with a max transmission range of 15 km. The DJI Fly app is already integrated and the remote controller allows for customizable buttons and dials for more convenient flying operations. The device is lightweight and easy to use, boasting all-new dual-spring control sticks for a smoother control experience. The affordable yet pro-friendly DJI RC packs in a built-in 5.5-inch FHD display supporting screen brightness of up to 700 nits. Read: DJI slashes Mini 2 drone Fly More Combo to $479 for Prime Day DJI RC drone remote controller This firmware update also adds support to download photos (except panoramas) and 1080p videos to an external SD card. The compatibility for DJI RC has been enabled through firmware v of the remote controller. Until now, Mavic 3 users have had only two remote control options: the DJI RC-N1, which requires drone operators to mount their smartphone to their controller, and the DJI RC Pro, which has its own screen but costs almost four times as the DJI RC. On Monday, a new firmware version for the DJI RC unlocked. A welcome addition as the DJI RC is a fantastic offering for its price. According to DJI leaker OstiaLV, DJI’s new RC controller might be coming to more than just the Mavic 3 but also the Air 2S, replacing the Smart Controller. DCRainmaker talked about this in his DJI RC: 23 Questions Answered in Detail video, and mentioned that it would take 2 days to bypass DJIs limitation. However, that doesnt mean it isnt possible. While the DJI RC was initially launched alongside the new Mini 3 Pro aircraft, it can now be purchased as a standalone device for $309. DJI RC will also come to the Air 2S per leaker. By now we all know that the DJI RC controller for the Mini 3 Pro does not support Android apps outside of the DJI Fly app. Rounding out your piloting experience, extra features and capabilities can be enjoyed with the incorporation of the DJI Fly app.DJI’s latest remote controller with a built-in display, DJI RC, is now compatible with the tech giant’s flagship Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine drones. While there is no built-in storage, you can add an optional microSD card to pull images and videos from the drone to share online quickly. You can use the DJI RC-N1 that you already own. Speaking of which, the display supports footage up to Full HD 1080p resolution. Includes DJI RC, DJI Goggles Integra, and DJI RC Motion 2, allowing you to experience immersive flight from a first-person view. Even on sunny days, the high 700 cd/m² brightness of the display helps make incoming drone footage easier to view. With a large 5.5″ built-in display, you can leave your phone in your pocket.

The Bissell Pet Hair Eraser is compact enough to store under your kitchen sink or on the top shelf of a closet, but we were surprised to find that it's a bit heavier than many other hand vacuums. When we were done, the seats were looking as good as new, which is a really big accomplishment for a puppy-transportation vehicle. It also did a good job sucking up dirt from the cracks, and we used the upholstery tool to get into the really tight crevices. We were impressed at how well the motorized tool was able to pull out hairs that had worked their way into the upholstery. The puppy is a frequent passenger, so there was plenty of dirt and hair to go around. We did like that the silicone flap inside the nozzle kept the litter from falling back out!įinally, we used the vacuum to clean the seats in the car. We found that you had to hold it at just the right angle to get optimal suction, and even then, it still sent the occasional rock flying across the room. The Bissell did an okay job picking up cat litter that got kicked out of the litter box. (Don’t get rid of your full-size vacuum just yet.) Plus, the tool is just 4.5 inches across, so it would take forever to clean a whole rug. To use the mini motorized tool, you have to hold the hand vacuum nearly horizontally, and this was really awkward to do on the floor-we basically had to sit down to make it work. We also tested the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless Vacuum on a small area rug, and we found the vacuum’s angle to be too awkward for this application. It took just a few quick passes with the motorized tool to remove all traces of hair from the fabric. It did take several passes to leave the bed looking clean, but it was quite hair-covered, so we weren’t that surprised. After experimenting a little, we found that the motorized tool did the best job pulling the embedded hairs out of the fabric, but the upholstery tool was a good shape for getting into the cracks. He sleeps in the bed every day, and the Sherpa-like fabric was absolutely covered in his hair. Next up was the cat’s bedding, which was definitely dirty and hair-covered. But, then again, the couch gets cleaned fairly regularly, so there may not have been much on it to begin with. After vacuuming one seat cushion with the motorized tool and a back cushion with the upholstery tool, we weren’t all that impressed with how much hair was in the dirt cup. The furniture wasn’t all that dirty to begin with, but the dog does sleep on it daily, so we were curious to see how much dirt and hair it would pull up. We were definitely impressed, and the vacuum was off to a good start. First, we used it to remove hair from a blanket that the cat loves to sleep on-he actually sheds more than the dog! It took just a few quick passes with the motorized tool to remove all traces of hair from the fabric. To see if the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Cordless Vacuum is really the pet mess cleanup machine, we tested it out in a variety of ways. We didn’t find an application for this feature, but it’s there should you need it. Second, you can actually use the upholstery tool in tandem with the crevice tool if you need to get into a tight space. For one, the head of the upholstery tool can be pivoted into a T formation, but we had to manhandle it a little-it’s not an easy transition, so don’t be afraid to put some muscle into it. There are a couple of noteworthy features of these attachments. However, as we used the vacuum to clean furniture, pet beds, and car seats, we found different uses for the two attachments (more on that in a minute). Upon first seeing them, we were a little confused, because the motorized tool and upholstery tools seemed to serve essentially the same function. The handheld vacuum comes with three attachments: A mini motorized tool, upholstery tool, and crevice tool. It’s compact enough to store under your kitchen sink or on the top shelf of a closet, but we were surprised to find that it's a bit heavier than many other hand vacuums. |
